Follow The Prophet

How many of you remember where you were before you were born? Have you ever wondered what the purpose of life is? What are we doing on this world anyways? Why can we smell, hear, see, and reason? Why do we feel sad when something bad happens? Where do we go after we die? Why are we here? Where do we find the answers to life's greatest questions?

People have been wondering about this long before our day. Since the beginning of time God has reached out in love to reveal His plan for His children. He speaks to His servants the prophets (Amos 3:7) to reveal these great mysteries. These prophets, in turn, teach us these eternal truths. Throughout the Bible we see that God has revealed the answers to these questions to people like Adam, Abraham, Noah, and many more. He also revealed His plan to prophets in America. We see throughout the Book of Mormon where God  teaches these truths to Lehi, Nephi, Alma, the Brother of Jared, and many more. Even in our time today God reaches out in love to His prophets. He has revealed himself to people like Joseph Smith, Spencer W. Kimball, Thomas S. Monson and many more. Where would we be without the words of the prophets as found in the Bible and Book of Mormon as well as preached to us today by living prophets? We should be grateful that through our prophets past and present we can know how we got here, why we are here, and where we are going?

Prophets arent always the most popular individuals. Prophets tell us how God wants us to live our lives. They reveal commandments to us that are sometimes hard to swallow if we are not humble. We all have the ability to choose to accept or reject the prophets message. People past have repeatedly chosen to reject the prophets. Many of them were even killed. However, those who accepted their message lived in peace and happiness in this life and and are heirs to recieve all that God has in the life to come (Romans 8:17). How are we recieving the words of the prophets today?

We have the scriptures opened up before us. We have instant access to the words of God everywhere we go. To what extent do we heed them? If a prophet were to stand before you today and tell you to live the law of chastity would you save sexual relations until after you were married? If God himself were to stand before you and ask you to pay 10% of your income would you pay it? If our ressurected Lord, Jesus Christ, came and told you that you should not drink alcohol, coffee, or tea would you still drink them? How receptive to the prophets message are we as a nation?

All of us can do something better to allign our will with our Heavenly Father. We do this best by following the prophets. We know why we are here. We know what happens after we die. All of the questions of the soul have been answered. We just arent listening, or we dont know where to find them. I testify that they are all out there. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has the answers in its fullness and simplicity. We have a prophet today. If we wish to recieve a fullness of joy we must listen to his words for they are the words of Christ (2 Nephi 33:10-11).

I leave with you the words of Jacob a prophet of the Book of Mormon:

"Wherefore, we search the prophets, and we have many revelations and the spirit of prophect; and having all these witnesses we obtain a hope, and our faith becometh unshaken"

We have more access to the words of the prophets today than anyone has ever had before. Make good use of it and search their words that your faith may become unshaken.
